A BeTimeful alternative: four devices covered, or one covered deeply

By Juhyun NamPublished 14 September 2026Updated 14 September 2026

BeTimeful offers four ways in where snowscroll offers one: an iOS app, an Android app, a Chrome extension and a Safari extension, against a single iPhone app. Its homepage calls it the "World's Only News Feed Eradicator for all your devices!", and it has been making this argument since before we existed. That breadth is the whole story, because it is the axis these two products separate on, and on that axis we lose.

Which one you want comes down to how many machines you scroll on. BeTimeful reaches wherever you install it, which on a laptop means the browser where most desktop scrolling happens. snowscroll reaches one iPhone and catches the tap on it. If your hours are spread across machines, stop reading and go to them.

What a browser extension does to a feed

An extension is code your browser runs against pages as they load. Point it at a social site and it takes the recommendation column out before you see it, leaving the parts you came for. That is the original news-feed-eradicator idea, and on a laptop it is close to ideal, because there the browser is not a side entrance to the platform, it is the platform.

The limit is in the same sentence. An extension lives inside a browser and edits what that browser loads, so install it in Chrome and Safari on your Mac and your feeds are gone there. The Instagram app on your phone is not a browser, and nothing in that design can touch it.

BeTimeful answers that with a second mechanism for phones. Its homepage describes the mobile side as blocking distracting apps, with "timed breaks to reclaim app usage" and a promise to "retain access to notifications". Breaks come in modes: a normal one at regular intervals, and a timeout mode which "introduces increasing delays before allowing another break". Its listing adds smart time limits, an auto discipline mode and Google Calendar integration.

So one brand, two mechanisms: feeds edited out in the browser, apps held shut on the phone. Which half you get depends on the device.

The prices, which do not line up

We found one figure written down. Its iOS listing states: "After the 5 days free trial, you can subscribe to BeTimeful Annual (12 months) for $49." The website says otherwise, with a plan block headed "FREE FOREVER", and its pricing page rendered no amount for us because the table is assembled by the browser rather than delivered with the page. We publish the written number and flag the disagreement rather than guess which is current. Checked 14 September 2026.

BeTimeful is the right answer when this is you

The first is not a close call, and it covers a great many people.

  • Your laptop is where it happens. Afternoons that vanish into a browser tab are outside our reach entirely. We have no desktop product and no extension. BeTimeful was built for exactly that hour.
  • You use more than one kind of device. Four install routes against our one. For the same rule on a phone and a computer, only one of us is offering it.
  • You are on Android. It ships there and we do not.
  • You want to test it first. Its listing offers a 5 days free trial. We sell one thing at one price, with no sample and no reduced version.
  • You want years behind it. Its iPhone app has been on the store since January 2022 and held 115 ratings at 4.1 stars when we looked. We arrived this year with two, which is a genuine argument against us.
  • You want blocking that still lets notifications through. An unusual combination, and it answers the common complaint about blockers.

One practical note before any yearly commitment, ours included: its iPhone listing showed a last update of 21 April 2025 when we checked. Platforms rearrange themselves often, so confirm the current build still handles the surfaces you care about.

What we do instead, on one device

snowscroll is an iPhone browser covering YouTube, Instagram, X, TikTok, Facebook and LinkedIn. Sign in through it and the recommendation surfaces never render, while messages, searches, notifications and the accounts you actually chose stay put. Same instinct as an eradicator, delivered as the browser rather than a passenger inside one.

The part that works only because we gave up the other devices is the shield. snowscroll ships four Family Controls extensions and asks for Screen Time permission while you set it up. Once given, a launch of any of the six is caught and lands you inside snowscroll with the feeds already stripped. That is a redirect, not a bar across the door. What it changes is the destination of the tap you did not decide to make, which an extension by its nature cannot do, since an extension only acts once you have chosen a browser and typed an address.

Depth traded for breadth. We cover a quarter of the devices and intercept the reflex that gets you there.

Ours. A year of snowscroll is $49.99, or $9.99 by the month, with the six services, every removable surface, the per-app daily limits and the shield in that single price. Checked 14 September 2026.

BeTimeful rows were read on 14 September 2026 from betimeful.com and its App Store listing. Where its own sources disagree, both positions are shown above rather than one being resolved on its behalf. Our numbers were checked the same day against our own pricing page.

Where both approaches are fragile

Editing somebody else's interface is maintenance work forever. Platforms redraw their layouts whenever it suits them, and every product on this shelf, extension or browser, has to keep up or quietly stop working. Ask any vendor here when their filters were last checked against the current build. We keep a public list of what is broken on our side for that reason.

The phone-side approaches differ more than the marketing suggests: a Shortcuts automation, a voice check-in before an in-app browser, or a countdown with no override.

Questions we get about this one

What does BeTimeful charge?

The only written figure we could find on 14 September 2026 is on its iOS App Store listing: after a 5 days free trial, BeTimeful Annual for 12 months at $49. Its own website points a different way, with a plan block headed FREE FOREVER, and its pricing page produced no amount for us at all because the table is drawn by the browser rather than sent with the page. So confirm the number at the checkout you actually use.

Does a browser extension work on the Instagram app on my phone?

No, and that is a property of extensions rather than a shortcoming of this one. An extension runs inside a browser and edits pages that browser loads, so it reaches instagram.com and stops at the edge of the native app. BeTimeful answers that by shipping separate iOS and Android apps which block apps and grant timed breaks instead, which is a different mechanism doing a different job.

Which one covers more of my week?

BeTimeful, unless every one of your scrolling hours happens on an iPhone. Its site offers four ways in: an iOS app, an Android app, a Chrome extension and a Safari extension. snowscroll exists on the iPhone and nowhere else, with no desktop product and an Android list carrying no date. If your laptop is where the afternoon goes, we cannot help you at all.

Is snowscroll a feed eradicator in the same sense?

In spirit yes, in delivery no. Both take the recommendation surface out and leave the messaging, posting and searching in place. BeTimeful does it by editing pages inside browsers you already use. snowscroll does it by being the browser, covering six services, and adding a Family Controls shield that reroutes a habit tap into itself rather than into the original app.

If the phone is the whole problem

One device, six services, the endless surfaces absent, and a shield that catches the tap you did not plan. $49.99 a year, or $9.99 a month.
